New Moon in Aquarius 2023 Update
New Moon in Aquarius, Mercury and Uranus direct. and Venus conjoins Saturn....
Greetings,
The astrological landscape begins to shift significantly under the New Moon in Aquarius this weekend (Jan. 21). Mercury is now direct after its three-week retrograde period, and we are heading out of the depths of Mars' long retrograde cycle that began in late October (last year). Uranus stations direct following this New Moon, so there is likely a powerful collective urge to break free of the past and rapidly move in new directions.
Yet, as discussed below, this New Moon carries some heavy and sobering vibes. Truth and honesty are significant themes here, and especially for a few days surrounding this New Moon, we may feel more cautious, hesitant, or restrained from pushing ahead. Some of this has to do with Venus and Saturn's conjunction in Aquarius, but also Pluto's conjunction with the New Moon itself.
Reflect on arising fears, inhibitions, and self-sabotaging beliefs. Many of these may arise from past negative experiences (such as trauma, abuse, neglect, or past failures) or repressed/shadow dimensions of our personality. Reflect on the possibility that much of what may be holding you back may have more to do with internalized beliefs or attitudes that no longer define who you are. Use this New Moon to make different choices and move boldly into a new future potential. Yet, pay attention to deeply rooted issues. This New Moon can start much-needed healing, recovery, and integration.
While Venus/Saturn's conjunction can feel more limiting, especially in the relational sphere, it opens space for honest dialogues and clarification of who's worthy of our love, attention, and commitment. While the dating/networking domain is likely to feel harder and rougher now, Venus' shift into Pisces late next week (Jan 26) will feel more heart-opening and expansive. Use this time to clarify the connections and people you want to attract further down the road and seek more authenticity in current partnerships.
Two tarot cards were pulled for this New Moon and waxing lunar cycle: The Magician and the Prince of Wands. Interestingly, both cards deal symbolically with willpower and our inherent ability to create change in our lives. The Magician (more so) symbolizes harnessing and directing the will to reshape the material world, while the Prince of Wands often indicates a fleeting, erratic (Uranian) energy that enters our life to shake things up and initiate change.
Both archetypes speak to fluid, transformative circumstances or transitional (liminal) territory and potential. This seems to connect well with the Plutonic and Uranian archetypes active around this lunation and the potential to rapidly transmute circumstances through taking the initiative and stepping into our power. This might be easier said than done, but whatever steps you make now, if consistently repeated, could lead to great things in the future.
